David Bowers (Flushed Away) has been tapped to replace Colin Brady as the director of Astro Boy, a $50 million CG-animated film for Imagi Studios. No word has been given as to why the Everyone's Hero co-director was taken off this project.
So far Bowers has only directed Flushed Away, but his career in the art and animation departments extends back through Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit in Curse of the Were Rabbit, Shark Tale, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
According to Variety, "the lonely robot tale is an adaptation of a comicbook story created by manga supremo Osamu Tezuka and turned into a TV series in the early 1960s."
Astro Boy will be released in 2009 by Warner Brothers and The Weinstein Co.
