Mark Romanek's replacement for the forthcoming remake of The Wolf Man has been selected, and it's probably the last person you thought it might be from that list of five we brought you last week. Universal has selected Joe Johnston, director of Hidalgo, October Sky, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. According to Variety, Johnston took over late Sunday night and will be able to get the $100 million production back on schedule almost immediately.
The script, based on the 1941 Universal horror classic starring Lon Chaney, Jr., has been written by Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en) and has been locked into place by the writers strike. The film stars Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, and Emily Blunt and will begin shooting in England in March.
So what do the horror fans think? Johnston's never done real horror, per see. Is he up to the job, or is there somebody else you would've preferred?
