Last year, at the tender age of ten, Abigail Breslin was nominated for Hollywood’s highest honor. In the year that followed, Little Miss Sunshine became Little Miss Sought-After, with three films currently in the works.
“I’m doing a movie right now with Cameron Diaz,” Breslin gushed, adding, “She’s so nice and she’s a lot of fun.” Beyond praising her co-star, Breslin remained coy: “I don’t know if I can say too much about it yet, but it’s called ‘My Sister’s Keeper.’”
Shooting will start soon on “Keeper,” which is helmed by “Notebook” director Nick Cassavetes. The film tells the story of a girl who seeks emancipation from her parents after learning that she was conceived with the hope of generating a genetic match in order to prolong the life of her ailing sister. Diaz plays a former attorney who returns to the courtroom to defend herself against her own daughter - and you thought you had a dysfunctional family!
Reportedly, Dakota Fanning backed out of the project after learning that she would have to shave her head. One might suspect that Breslin’s trademark long locks may be shorn shortly in dramatic fashion. “Keeper” also stars Alec Baldwin and Joan Cusack.
Breslin will share the screen will Cusack again in “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl.” Breslin plays Kit, a depression-era character from the popular “American Girl” franchise: the elaborate line of historical (albeit creepy) dolls is a sensation among young girls, making the project potentially a solid box office bet.
The young actress also enthused, “I have a movie coming out soon called ‘Nim’s Island,’” This fanciful tale — the first of her upcoming flicks with an April ‘08 release date — follows a young girl who lives on a magical island when her scientist father disappears. Inspired by her literary hero and the author of his exploits, Nim (Breslin) must use her imagination to conquer the strange island. Breslin co-stars with Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler of “300″ fame.
Is Abigail Breslin the real deal? Or is she the next Keisha Castle-Hughes? Weigh in with your thoughts below!
