Pakistan Readies Bhutto Biopic - SendMeRSS

Written by David Morgan

Hardly a week since the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, Skies Unlimited Films is planning to make a biopic on the former prime minister's life. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Skies Unlimited will work with Indian filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and Pakistani screenwriter-poet Aqeel Ahmad Ruby in order to bring her life to the screen. Producer Aneela Khan was somewhat elusive about details, saying that the director would be announced "soon" and this about the actress who will play Bhutto:

We have not decided yet. It could be someone famous or a completely new face. There are possibilities that some of the scenes would be shot in India, but we are not sure.

There's something to be said for striking while the iron is hot, but there's also something to be said for planning things out. Khan also said,

The basic motive behind this announcement is just to dedicate this film to Benazir Bhutto. The film is going to be released internationally, and we don't want to create any controversy with this film.

Of course not. Who would want controversy? It's not like that's good for ticket sales, right? And after all, what could be controversial about the life of a popular political leader who has very recently been killed?
