Golden Globe Winners Announced; Absolute Travesty! - SendMeRSS

2008 Golden Globes

The pitiful Golden Globe Awards just finished their measly 30 minute press conference presentation and I will say it was an absolute travesty! Not only was There Will Be Blood robbed of Best Drama, but Juno did not win a single one of the three categories it was nominated for!! Is this real? Am I dreaming?! This really goes to show how much of a hack organization the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) is and how much of a load of crap the Golden Globes truly are. If you're really curious to find out the rest of their terrible choices, you can see the full list below.

I was talking on the phone with Peter Sciretta of SlashFilm as these were being announced, and when Juno lost for a third time, he was so pissed off he wanted to punch the TV. That shows you the kind of frustration that the Globes have brewed and goes to show that these really are nothing but a load of crap. I'm not afraid to say it, so someone come and prove me wrong - the Golden Globes really are a waste of time. Sure, Sweeney Todd is a great movie, but Juno easily should have won Best Comedy. And I'm not even going to start on Atonement over There Will Be Blood!

The Golden Globes are for blue-haired fish lovers who are afraid of a challenge. MTV Movie Awards have more credibility than the Golden Globes because it's from people who actually see and enjoy movies that aren't all the same.

Yeah, I don't care about Hollywood patting itself on the back with these awards shows, but it's nice to see the Coen Brothers get some respect for No Country. Same with Javier Bardem as best supporting. As for the Juno shutout, it's too bad, but you'll live. Don't be such a fanboy ; )

Yeah Juno deserved something.

It's all subjective. I wouldn't call the Globes crap, just because your favorite films didn't win. Then again, I was surprised/disappointed with some of the choices. My money was on No Country for the win.

Well...from an ORIGINAL SCORE perspective, I think they got it right. I know there are only...say, 5 of us who care, but they usually really blow that category. As for ATONEMENT over THERE WILL BE BLOOD - I haven't had the chance to see BLOOD yet, but ATONEMENT was impressive on all fronts and I'm quite satisfied that it won. My impression of BLOOD is that Daniel Day Lewis delivers another stunning performance within a movie that is merely pretty good. Perhaps my view will change once I see it.

Pfff....The fact the Hot Fuzz didn't win every Golden Globe possible (eligibility be damned) speaks volumes about how lame the HFPA is.
