Of the one thousand workers at Warner Brothers who had been warned of layoffs, so far three dozen have actually lost their jobs. The WB issued this statement (courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter)
There was a great deal of misinformation reported regarding the potential number of layoffs that might be implemented this week. We have worked very hard to come up with solutions -- such as implementing reduced work schedules -- to minimize layoffs. Because of these measures, fewer than three dozen positions were affected this week.
We will continue to explore alternatives to layoffs, including redeployment to other areas of our businesses. We are very sorry for the impact this has on our nonstriking work force.
Likewise, we send our sympathies to those employees and their families, and we wish them the best. Hopefully this strike can be resolved before anyone else is on the chopping block, but there's still no end in sight.
