Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson (left, above) has been receiving immense critical acclaim recently surrounding his masterpiece There Will Be Blood. The film just received eight Oscar nominations yesterday and has been one of the most praised movies this year. So what's next on PTA's slate? A rumor from our friends at Bloody-Disgusting.com is saying that PTA will be turning to the horror genre next. Now I really can't wait to see what he cooks up.
Paul Thomas Anderson has previously directed Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch-Drunk Love. My speculation is that he's set to win the directing Oscar come February 24th, but only time will tell. But as with Joel and Ethan Coen from No Country for Old Men, everyone wants to know what they're up to next (if you're curious about the Coen Brothers next movie, then read this). Bloody-Disgusting.com is saying that a well-trusted insider has told them that PTA "is seriously contemplating making his next project a HORROR film."
This isn't fully confirmed and there is nothing down on actual paper, but they're hoping a decision will be made sometime soon. If you think this could be a good choice for PTA, then sound off. "Spread the word and let him know you want to see it!" I love when incredible directors explore different genres, and so far it seems like PTA is quite versatile, directing a period piece and a couple of Oscar-winning dramas. Would horror be a good genre for PTA to explore?
