Juno Soundtrack Hits #1 - SendMeRSS |
“We are, like, major.”
The day all hardcore Kimya Dawson fans and Chan Marshall’s Miami hangers-on have dreaded is here, as the Juno Soundtrack has taken Soundscan’s gold medal, with 65,000 units sold. And take note, because this is the first time a soundtrack for a Best Picture nominee has dangled its legs from atop the flagpole since Titanic did it a decade ago. And in a possible Juno-boost, soundtrack artist Cat Power’s latest album, the swell Jukebox, debuted at number 12, her highest sales week in a long career.
As of today, Juno, which cost less than $5 million or $10 million to make depending on the source, has stuffed $102 million under its striped shirt, and I’m sure mini-cheeseburger cell phones aren’t far behind. Please let us know if you see any new Juno consumerism trends out there, like a Target display with Juno dog shampoo or something.
You have to wonder if Juno will get the rare Boogie Nights treatment with a second soundtrack installment. It would be slim pickings, but why not paint the world orange with some Stooges tracks and select cuts from Goblin’s Suspiria soundtrack. I like to see hipsters look for an exit.

Indiana Jones Bazooka Pic - SendMeRSS |
Might Indiana Jones take down a UFO with a bazooka in this summer’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? Doubtful, but a new image has popped up in the new Empire mag, with co-stars Karen Allen and the emotive kid from Project Greenlight looking hesitant in their awe over Indy’s brandishing the firearm formerly associated with Rambo. The mag also grabbed a nice quote from producer Frank Marshall…
“I would say [Indy IV] is closest to the third one [Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade]. It’s all adults. I mean, you have the sidekick in Shia (LaBeouf), but you don’t have a Short Round and I think the banter between the characters is as fun as it was in the third movie.”
Personally, the third film ranks last for me, and that’s enough dissing Short Round for today.

Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes to Remake ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ - SendMeRSS |
Yes, it's another sad day for horror fans. It has been recently announced that Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company (a.k.a. the company that tarnishes horror classics) will in fact be behind the 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' remake. F*CK!
Comingsoon.net gives us this rage worthy news:
Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been set by New Line to re-launch Freddy Krueger, the iconic psycho who haunts the subconscious dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep, reports Variety.
Both franchises will be given a complete overhaul, something that Platinum Dunes provided in the Nispel-directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. New Line won’t hire a writer on “Nightmare” until the writers strike ends.
It's pretty sad that Platinum Dunes has now acquired the rights to remake all the iconic horror movies. (Except for 'Halloween.') Leatherface, Jason, and now Freddy Krueger are now property of Michael Bay.
The good news is that the "nightmare" (in more ways than one) won't begin until this dreaded writers' strike is over. Also, the other good news is that aspiring horror screenwriters like myself should now feel more confident about their original scripts and their creativity for they are rarities in this field now.
Honestly, I don't know what else to say about this news. All I can think of is a long incoherent string of swear words.
What are your thoughts?
User comment: By: Phil GeeI read the article over at AICN and they suggested Ben Foster as Freddy. I think that's a pretty awesome choice actually.
User comment: By: Serenahey guys, Yeah, we've been having technical problems with the site which should be fixed by this evening. So don't you worry....just be patient :)
User comment: By: Darren J Seeley@Angela Yeah, TMB's been kind of funny the last few days. There were even brief lapses where it appeared to be down. Lack of posts too. Stuff missed:: Sean Young entering rehab after her outbursts at the DGA awards, an old closed down 79 acre Army defense plant in Statford, Connecticut could be the future home of an unnamed Hollywood production company, and the Terry Gilliam film could be 'saved', making it the last Heath Ledger film, not 'The Dark Knight'. Gio, Doug, Serena...what's going on????
User comment: By: MeliAh hell! I can't take it! What a freaking nightmare -sigh- I'm depressed.
User comment: By: Darren J SeeleyFollow up... @Serena.... What do they mean..."both"? Elm Street and what else? Critters?!
User comment: By: AngelaAnyone else having problems with the site? It doesn't seem to be keeping the posts.
User comment: By: Darren J SeeleyThis is one hell of a catch 22. I want the WGA strike to be over (indeed, it does seem like the picket line days are numbered) and on the other (gloved) hand, I don't want an Elm Street remake. Damned if you do damned if you don't. *************** @Grave Craven co-wrote last year's Hills Have Eyes 2 with his son. Don't get your hopes too high... ************** @Platinum Dunes After a string of horror remakes which have, for the most part fell on thier butts, isn't it about time you folks focus on one of the following: 1) An original (meaning : new) script in the horror-suspense genre that isn't connected to past franchises but could wind up being on of "your own" for the next handful of years? It could even be written by, for example, say Wes Craven, Neil Marshall or Davis J Schow...anyone with a "name" value. Heck, you still have "name" value of Michael Bay, for better or for worse. 2) By up the rights to various novels/author's works. Brian Lumley, Poppy Brite etc. Adapt them. The masses need new horror icon "heroes". Not recycled ones. Unless it's the Triffids.
User comment: By: DarkKingerI agree with Grave, England is Freddy. Get someone else to play Freddy is a bigger death sentence than JLA. Right now, this remake idea makes me cautious.
User comment: By: KlendathuSon of a bitch...Well it can't be worse than Freddy's Dead (even though it probably will).
Visit here to subscribe to these commentsUser comment: By: GraveWell the idea of a Re-make is not too bad as long as two key elements are still in there. 1. Wes Craven writes the story, 2. Robert England plays Freddy. If Wes is out ....thats not so bad I can live with that cause his latest movies have tanked but I will not Seen any Nightmare movies without England playing Freddy. Thats like making and Indiana Jones movie without Harrison Ford or a Rocky movie without Stallion.

Scorsese's Shutter Island is Now Ashecliffe - SendMeRSS |
Martin Scorsese's latest film Shutter Island, based on the novel by Dennis Lehane, is being retitled Ashecliffe, after the mental institution in which most of the story takes place. The news comes via The Boston Herald, who also drop some hints about the plot of the new movie:
In screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis’ script, there’s lots of flashbacks to a World War II concentration camp. Hence, the casting call on Jan. 26 for background extras to play malnourished camp prisoners and military or law-enforcement types to portray the guards.
Leonardo DiCaprio will star as US Marshal Teddy Daniels who, along with his partner (played by Mark Ruffalo), travels to the isolated mental institution on Shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of a serial killer. Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, and Patricia Clarkson co-star.
Somehow this article was posted in the Herald over a week ago and only now are we, the intrepid members of the internet press, reporting on it. We must have been too caught up in the Oscar nominations and the Ledger tragedy to notice. Sorry if we let you down.
As to why the name change, no clue. Shutter Island looked menacing; Ashecliffe just looks misspelled.

Romanek Quits The Wolfman remake! - SendMeRSS |
Written by Lucas C Haberstich
Expect howls. Mark Romanek quit the Benicio del Toro-starring remake of The Wolfman he was helming for Universal Pictures. The director of dark music videos and One Hour Photo left the project last night due to concerns with the budget, $100 million was apparently not enough to cover his schedule, Deadlline Hollywood reports.
That void will be filled quickly, no doubt, but $100 million seems like a decent amount of play money to me. I guess Romanek just couldn't bear to shoot the remake without a werewolf covered in real diamonds. How long before he finds a studio to fund his pictures after this?

Young Kirk Cast in Star Trek - SendMeRSS |
Written by David Morgan
Looks like Chris Pine will not be the only new James T. Kirk in town. 11 year-old Jimmy Bennett has been cast as young Kirk in J.J. Abrams's Star Trek prequel film. He joins a cast that so far includes Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Eric Bana, Winona Ryder, Tyler Perry, Ben Cross, Jennifer Morrison, Leonard Nimoy and more. Still unaccounted for is the original Kirk, William Shatner, who at this point seems unlikely to appear.
Bennett has appeared in such films as Poseidon, Evan Almighty, and Firewall among several others.

Once's "Falling Slowly" to Be Dropped from the Oscar Ballot? - SendMeRSS |
Written by David Morgan
The critical darling Once, which was snubbed in every Oscar category except one, may now lose that one shot at glory. The New York Times reports that there are some questions over the eligibility of Once's Best Song nominee "Falling Slowly." The Academy's rules specify that "An original song consists of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the film."
Evidently, Glen Hansard's song appeared on two albums before the film was released, suggesting the possibility that the song may or may not have been written specifically for the movie. The Academy is still reviewing the situation, but if things go badly for Once, Enchanted will have a 75% chance of walking away with the statue as its three songs' only competitor will be "Raise it Up" from August Rush. Eesh. And they couldn't spare one nomination spot for Eddie Vedder's work on Into the Wild?

Bay Continues the Remake Nightmare - SendMeRSS |
The Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form are working with New Line Cinema to reboot the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise originally started by Wes Craven in 1984. Variety describes Platinum Dune's approach to the series as entailing a "complete overhaul" much like what they've done to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, and the forthcoming Friday the 13th re-invention (an oxymoron?).
The original A Nightmare on Elm Street featured a character called Freddy Krueger (played by Robert Englund) who would haunt the dreams of teenagers and kill them in their sleep. It is believed that at least this much will be preserved of the original premise (minus Englund, probably). No writer has been hired yet, and none will be until the WGA strike is resolved.

Noyce Walks Away from Earhart Biopic - SendMeRSS |
Written by David Morgan
Director Phillip Noyce (Catch a Fire, The Quiet American) has left the production of an Amelia Earhart biopic that was set to star Hilary Swank as the famed aviatrix. Noyce told Moviehole,
I had worked on Amelia for 5 months from July to end of December 2007, finding all the locations and extensively storyboarding the flying sequences - When it didn't appear that the film was going ahead, I had to make a painful decision to move on and returned to a project that had long fascinated me… Mary Queen of Scots. Scarlett Johansson will play Mary in a film to be shot on location in Scotland, England and Ireland during 2008.
Noyce believes that Swank will remain with the production as she is, in his mind, the only viable choice for the role. "Personally, she's the only person I could ever see in that role. An American Icon playing an American Icon."
Most likely the Amelia Earhart film was stalled due to the writers strike, which prohibited any new drafts from being submitted to the studio.

Charles Durning Joins Burt Reynolds in Amateurs - SendMeRSS |
Written by David Morgan
Stocky, 84 year-old character actor Charles Durning (Dog Day Afternoon, The Sting, Scarface) has been cast in the Isle of Man-funded comedy A Bunch of Amateurs, opposite Burt Reynolds. According to Variety, Durning will play "a sleazy Hollywood agent who tricks his client, a fading action star played by Burt Reynolds, into traveling to England to play King Lear in an amateur charity production."
Filming begins on February 2nd under the direction of Andy Cadiff (The War at Home, My Wife and Kids) and produced by David Parfitt of Trademark Films.
Reynolds and Durning have appeared in several movies together, and in fact it was Reynolds who presented Durning with his SAG lifetime achievement award on Sunday.

David Murray Will Be Destro - SendMeRSS |
Written by David Morgan
The primary villain in the forthcoming G.I. Joe movie has been cast. Irish theater actor David Murray will wear the steel head of Destro in Stephen Sommers's nostalgia-fueled future blockbuster, produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
Destro, for the uninitiated, is essentially a cunning, Scottish arms dealer who is constantly clashing with the Joe team as well as COBRA. His most distinctive feature is his silver battle mask which has been passed down from father to son for centuries. He is also in love with the Baroness.
Murray hasn't received much attention outside of the theater world, but he's had minor roles in such films as Batman Begins (as "Jumpy Thug"), King Arthur, and The Honeymooners. Want to know more about the man who's going to either bring back fond memories or ruin your childhood? Fortunately, he's posted a detailed resume on IMDb that you can view here.

Tráilers de “Son of Rambow” y “The cottage”: Humor y terror con acento británico - SendMeRSS |

Mark Romanek Quits The Wolfman - SendMeRSS |
For the last few years Universal Pictures have been raiding their vaults and trying to find different ways of revitalizing their old horror icons. We've had the Mummy movies (the third is out this year) and Van Helsing tried to merge Dracula, Frankenstein and The Wolfman, but the final product wasn't a huge success (that's a tiny understatement, but lets not get into that).
The latest feature in the pipeline is The Wolfman, which is about the, er... Wolfman. The film is due to star the powerhouse acting combo of Benicio Del Torro and Anthony Hopkins, with make-up by the legendary Rick Baker.
Until today the film was due to be directed by Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo), but now he has quit the project over the film's budget.
According to the opinionated Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily, Romanek left the film because he couldn't make the film for $100 million dollars.
I know how he feels, I reckon I couldn't make a movie for under $300 million.
Seriously, though, I find this a bit crazy. Finke's source states:
"He's a purist, an artiste, an exquisite craftsman, but he just had a budget schedule he couldn't accommodate."
If this is true, I can think of a few words to describe him, the cleanest being "idiot." The man must be howling mad.
As the film has a release date of February 13 2009, they'd better get a new director, fast!
Just thank the Lord that Stephen Sommers is already directing G.I Joe.
Who do you guys think should step in?
I'd like to see Richard Donner return to the horror genre, but I'm old school.
