After Dark Films and Massify.com are creating Ghosts in the Machine, "an online competition inviting fans to pitch ideas, produce and vote on key elements in the making of a full-length horror feature" (THR). The winner will be given a producer's credit on the final film, which will be released in the annual 8 Films to Die For series. Massify will webcast the project as an online reality series, which the winning contestant will be featured in.
Fans will also be encouraged to send in video auditions for acting roles in the film. These videos will then be viewed and judged (harshly) by the online community. People interested in marketing can also submit their ideas for creative ways to advertise the film.
On the one hand you could say, "Great! The democratization of the arts!" On the other hand, "Man, some producers are not in the mood to do their own jobs."
