Marisa Tomei will play the female lead opposite Mickey Rourke in Darren Aronofsky's 1980s-set drama The Wrestler. According to Variety, Tomei will play the stripper that the over-the-hill pro-wrestler moves in with in order to build a relationship with her son. Rourke took over the role after Nicolas Cage departed a few months ago, presumably to play an animated talking mole.
Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) wrote the screenplay with Robert D. Siegel. Filming is underway in New York and New Jersey. If you think Tomei, 43, is getting too old to play a stripper, last year's Before the Devil Knows You're Dead might just change your mind.
