Lionsgate gets into The Spirit , okays sequels - SendMeRSS

Written by Lucas C Haberstich

Writer/Director Frank Miller (Sin City) has impressed Lionsgate with his work on Will Eisner's The Spirit, Superhero Hype! reports.  Impressed them to such a degree that Miller has been signed for two more sequels nearly a year before the first installment's theatrical release.  The studio has high expectations for a blockbuster performance at the box office based on the current state of the project.

Filming entirely in a studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico, using a lot of the tricks and green screen artistry from previous Frank Miller comic book adaptations (Sin City, 300), The Spirit "tells the visceral, action-packed story of a man (Gabriel Macht) who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) -- who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face -- has a different mission: he's going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader."

That bevy includes such hot, young actresses as Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Sarah Paulson, Paz Vega, Jamie King, and Stana Katic.  Plus Samuel L. Jackson as a shadowy villain!  Lionsgate may not be wrong to get behind this movie so soon and I'll certainly be getting in front of it for its release on January 16, 2009.
