Dane Cook haters rejoice! The man has 2.5 million Myspace buddies, but search most online message boards, and you’d be hard pressed to find a vocal supporter for the popular comedian. And he’s finally seeing the light himself…well, in films anyway.
“Basically, I’m an a–hole,” Cook joked of his role as Tank in the upcoming “My Best Friend’s Girl,” a sort of reverse romantic comedy opposite Kate Hudson and Jason Biggs.
“I’m a guy that you hire when your ex breaks up with you and you want her back. Maybe you screwed up, maybe you didn’t - it’s not for my guy to judge,” Cook explained. “But he goes in and dates your girl and is so maniacal and ruthless he drives her completely insane. She starts to feel like you weren’t so bad after all. I force her into the arms of the last guy.”
No doubt. Mr. Cook - THAT’S an asshole. But after the broad comedy of “Good Luck Chuck,” the chance to play a little darker has Cook smiling.
“I’ve never had so much fun on a movie set. The thing about this role in this film is, as opposed to ‘Good Luck Chuck,’ which was definitely over-the-top, to say the least, this is kind of steeped more in real-world humor despite the fact that the premise is still a little bit wild,” he said. “It was fun to play this darker guy with a comedic twist.”
