Krasinski, Rudolph, Hines Join Mendes Film - SendMeRSS

Written by David Morgan

Sam Mendes is currently working on an untitled romantic comedy for Focus Features that now has its two stars. Variety reports that John Krasinski (The Office) and Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live) will play an expectant couple traveling the country "in search of a place to put down roots and raise a family." Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm) has also been cast.

With a different director I might expect this to be another miserably disposable rom-com, but Sam Mendes hasn't made a bad film yet. Then again, you have to take into consideration that he's mostly worked with the very best of the top-notch actors like Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening, Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, and Jake Gyllenhaal. It'll be interesting to see if he can get that caliber of performance out of a sketch comedian and a guy whose signature move is shrugging and grinning at the camera (hilarious though he and his show are).

Author Dave Eggers wrote the screenplay with his wife Vendela Vila. Shooting will begin this April in Connecticut.
