Young Brit Thomas Sangster Cast as Tintin?

Thomas Sangster as Tintin

The 17-year-old British actor Thomas Sangster has been cast to play Tintin in the trilogy of CGI films that Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are creating. He joins the already announced performance capture master Andy Serkis, who will play Tintin's sidekick Captain Haddock. London's Daily Mail, who picked up the scoop, does say things aren't 100% finalized, but like all casting news, he's essentially the right one. Things are really starting to come together on this trilogy, which will begin filming this fall, and it seems like both Spielberg and Jackson are dedicating all of the effort towards this project once they each finish up Indiana Jones IV and The Lovely Bones respectively.

It was also announced recently that Spielberg will be directing the first film in the trilogy and Jackson will be directing the second. A third director for the final film hasn't been announced yet, but speculations are pointing to either a collaboration between the two or even James Cameron. Sangster has already been to LA to work on pre-production test sequences with both directors.

The films will chronicle the adventures of Tintin, a junior reporter who will follow stories even though he often finds his own life in jeopardy. The films will be based on three stories from The Adventures of Tintin comic book by Georges Remi, who wrote under the pen name of Herge, and will be produced in full digital 3D using performance capture technology.

I'm still intrigued by this trilogy and I'm anxious to get our first real glimpse at what the CGI Tintin will look like. Now that they've found their actor, if indeed Thomas is the one, then they can get moving on the final look. I had no interest it he beginning when we first announced it, but now it grows on me every new update. As much as I know it's nearly impossible for Spielberg or Jackson to screw up these days, I'm worried that the look is going to be the hardest part to pull off. Only time will tell!
