Even with a DVD release of The Dark Knight set for December, Warner Bros. is looking to release the movie in January just in time for Oscar voting.
The plan right now is for the film to once again hit Imax theaters to remind people of the movie when they go to vote. Many have said that Heath Ledger deserves a nomination for his portrayal of The Joker, even if he has passed on already.
No exact release date for the DVD, and we really have no details about what will be on it exactly. Some are saying re-releasing the movie after it is out on DVD is a mistake, while others mention that maybe a re-release will help the movie make that last bit in box office receipts it needs to surpass Titanic as the top earner at the box office.
Right now, The Dark Knight has earned just about $513 million. To sink Titanic, it needs to pass $600 million. It isn’t entirely impossible. Die hard fans might actually go see the new release of the movie in January. Currently, Christian Bale is filming Terminator: Salvation in Los Angeles. He even had a meeting with the original terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is sparking speculation that Arnold might actually have a role in the movie. We won’t know that for sure until Terminator: Salvation hits the big screen.
