Cher to play Catwoman?

The rumour mill must be getting a little slow and they are just making stuff up to talk about now. The latest: Nolan wants Cher to play Catwoman in a Dark Knight sequel.

Get The Big Picture reports:

The Telegraph cites a “studio executive” who says, “Cher is Nolan’s first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years.” The source adds, “The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry’s purring creations.”

I call bullshit right away (as the original article also does) because I just can’t see a 65 year old woman as Catwoman. Yes, Pfeiffer and Berry both had seductive traits, but they were still very different. Pfeiffer can admit she did Catwoman without averting her eyes for starters.

But Cher may have had her sexual appeal to some, she is losing that rapidly no matter how much surgery she endures. Taking the sexual grace out of Catwoman would pervert the concept of the catburglar and conflicting love interest to Batman. This would instantly kibosh the classic tragic love potential for Bale’s younger batman who would be about half her age. So that would be out of the possible storylines. With the strong character driven direction that Nolan has been going in, I would think that he would touch on that.

The scooper also attempts to confirm Johnny Depp being attached however NOT as the Riddler.

Back in the day Matt Damon was the go-to rumour guy. Everytime there was a role up for a guy, every rumour seemed to say Damon. Johnny Depp has become the new Matt Damon.

Everyone wants to see Depp in this, and though I am never opposed to involving Depp in just about anything, I don’t HAVE to see him in everything. Sounds like this rumour is just playing on popular opinion to try and give it some credit.

Nolan hasn’t even officially signed on to the sequel and no script has been written. So it is not even known what villain will be used.
