Actress Julianne Moore has signed on to star in Shelter for Nala Films. Variety describes the film as a supernatural horror thriller, but says that the "logline is being kept under wraps." The talented and revered star has chosen some lousy supernatural horror films in the past (Next, The Forgotten) but she's also picked at least one brilliant one (Children of Men) so it's really about who else is involved.
So who is involved? Well, Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein are co-directing, and their claim to fame is a Swedish film called Storm about which I know nothing. It's got a mid-level rating on IMDb, but it did win the Audience Award at the Stockholm Film Festival, as well as best cinematography in the Guldbagge Awards (IMDb). And Shelter is written by Michael Cooney the British writer and director who brought us the Jack Frost series (the campy murderous snowman movies, not the family comedy with Michael Keaton) as well as the screenplay to Identity, which was fine, though nothing to write home about. So, the pedigree on this project isn't perfect but it could be much worse.
Filming is scheduled to begin in March in Pittsburgh.
